BAILIFFS sent to seize a Stoke Newington woman’s car were attacked with a bottle, threatened with a knife and had their property stolen.

The two men went to impound the car of a woman in Shakespeare Walk for unpaid fines in January.

When they arrived Rion Palmer, 25, of Milton Garden Estate, Stoke Newington, paid the woman’s debt.

The bailiffs left the area and went to their next call in Shaklewell Road where they were attacked by two men, one of who they recognised as Palmer.

The first bailiff was hit over the head with a bottle and the second was threatened with a knife.

The pair of thugs stole one of the victim’s jacket, cash, mobile phone and keys to the van the duo were driving.

They opened the van, stole a laptop and the fled the area.

Palmer, who was picked out in an ID parade by one of the victims, was sentenced to six years in prison at Snaresbrook Crown Court on August 16.

DC Will Peel, from Hackney’s Robbery Squad, said: “The significant prison sentence handed down in this case reflects the seriousness of this offence and the impact it has had on two men who were just doing their job.

“The Judge concluded in sentencing Palmer that he had been the ringleader in this offence, that there was at least one other person involved and the offence was a premeditated one involving the use of a significant amount of violence.

“I would like to thank the victims and members of the community who came forward in helping us bring this man to justice. Hackney is a safer place without him.”
