Conmen posing as bogus policemen stole £300 from an elderly woman in Romford last week.

An 89-year-old was tricked into letting two men who said they were offices investigating an incident.

The suspects, described as being white and aged between 20 to 30-years-old, made off with £300 of the pensioner’s cash at 9.50pm on Thursday.

A spokesman for Havering Police said that genuine officers will identify themselves with their warrant card, which includes a photo ID.

He added: “If members of the public are unsure about the identity of an individual they should telephone 101 for confirmation.”

Anyone with information about the incident is also asked to call police on 101.
