Anerley’s Janine Sandell battled alongside her fellow volleyball teammates into the early hours of Tuesday morning as they defeated Algeria, grabbing their first Olympic win.

The five set match held the crowds as Team GB saw off the African champions ranked more than 50 places above them in the world standings.

The Olympian left Bromley at the age of 11 when she moved to America with her parents and made her debute for Team GB in 2007.

Janine and Team GB are currently in fourth place in Group A and will take on the Dominican Republic tomorrow (Friday) afternoon.
