The woman’s body was found last night in Lime Court, New Malden, south-west London, Scotland Yard said.

Millionairess Miss Waugh, 50, has not been seen by her family since mid-April and was reported missing on May 7.

Concerns over her safety grew after a man impersonating her brother tried to sell her central London flat.

Earlier this week police detained a 47-year-old man on suspicion of kidnap and conspiracy to defraud and subsequently on suspicion of murder.

A warrant for further detention was granted at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, Scotland Yard said, and the suspect remains in custody at a south London police station.

To date, 10 arrests have been made in connection with the investigation.

The body will be formally identified after a post-mortem examination at Kingston mortuary later today.

Detectives said Ms Waugh, who previously lived in Libya, met men through a variety of internet dating websites and were investigating the possibility that she might have worked as an escort.
