A man has been charged over the murder of a man who was bound with tape, threatened and assaulted during an armed burglary at his bungalow, police said today.

Edward and Anne Syrad were directly targeted by burglars who entered their home in south east London on January 25.

A post-mortem examination found Mr Syrad, 64, died of severe blunt trauma injuries and heart failure.

During the burglary Mr Syrad was threatened with a gun and assaulted. His wife was taken to hospital with minor injuries and later discharged.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said Gezim Delijah, 37, of no fixed abode, has been charged with murder and aggravated burglary.
