Finchley ‘bag killer’ man jailed for girlfriend’s death

A man who killed his girlfriend by putting a plastic bag over her head was jailed for 10 years today.

The body of Beata Slomiana, 33, lay undiscovered for 10 days at her home in Ballards Lane, Finchley, north London.

But the day after she was found in September last year, her boyfriend Asaad Abdel-All, 32, admitted himself into a psychiatric hospital, the Old Bailey heard.

Crispin Aylett QC, prosecuting, said Abdel-All admitted suffocating her and said he thought she had been trying to poison him.

On the day she died, he had been seen in only his underpants jumping into the pond of a nearby park.

Abdel-All, a former assistant school caretaker in Barnet, north London, pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

Doctors’ reports said he had been suffering from paranoid schizophrenia at the time and had not been taking his medication.

Abdell-All was on bail at the time for assaulting Miss Slomiana, but she had told magistrates she wanted to withdraw the allegation.

Recorder of London Judge Peter Beaumont told Abdell-All: “Your responsibility is lessened, it is not extinguished by your mental illness.”
