The 17-year-old victim was left in a critical condition following the disturbance on a London-bound train which was at Gillingham station in Kent on July 24, British Transport Police (BTP) said.

The boy, from Dartford, was taken to Medway Hospital with stab wounds to his chest and abdomen and he underwent surgery there, the spokesman said.

He was later discharged but has since been arrested by detectives on suspicion of violent disorder.

The disturbance reportedly involved a group of males, and the Greenwich man was also arrested at the weekend on suspicion of the same offence.

The teenager and the man have both been bailed pending further inquiries and will return to police stations in Kent and London on August 31, the spokesman said.
