A London-based journalist and a police officer were arrested today by police investigating corrupt payments to public officials, Scotland Yard said.

The 37-year-old journalist was arrested at his north London home at 6am this morning, at around the same time as the police officer, who comes from Sussex.

The men were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to corrupt and conspiracy to cause misconduct in a public office as part of Operation Elveden, a Metropolitan Police investigation into inappropriate payments made by journalists to police and public officials.

They bring the number of arrests under Operation Elveden to 43.

Both men are being held in custody at separate London police stations.
