A police officer has suffered suspected broken ribs after an alleged stabbing in Lewisham.

Police were attending reports of an assault at around 12.15pm by a man on a woman at an address in Farmcote Road before the incident took place.

While at the scene, the 36-year-old constable sustained his injuries after he was attacked with a pair of scissors, according to the Metropolitan Police. He was subsequently taken to hospital by his colleagues.

The woman at the property was also taken to hospital. Her injuries are not thought to be serious.

A man in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and is currently in custody at a south London police station.
