Police were called in after a man threatened to jump off a footbridge at Dagenham Dock Station.

A Met police negotiator and firefighters attended the incident in Chequers Lane after 1pm today, and the man was brought down via a ladder at around 2.45pm.

The Met said power lines were temporarily cut for safety reasons adding the man was being taken to a mental health facility for assessment.

A Met police spokesman said: “A negotiator was present at the scene. The man eventually left by a London Fire Brigade ladder.”

A London Fire Brigade spokesman added: “There was a man on a bridge threatening to jump. We were called at 1.07pm.”
