Met police are urging Hackney residents to come forward with information about drug dealers in their area, in a new offensive against street-level drug dealers.

While major initiatives, like Operation Connect, have been carried out recently against high-level dealers at the top of the criminal ranks, Operation Hawk is refocusing police activity on the minions.

Over the next few weeks Operation Hawk will see safer neighbourhood teams working with specialists to tackle local dealers in daily operations using local community intelligence.

MPS Commander Mak Chishty, operational lead for Operation Hawk, said: “Drug dealing damages communities. It generates crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour.

“Estimates show that between a third and a half of all acquisitive crime is committed offenders to fund their misuse of illegal substances.

“Community intelligence passed to us will be dealt with as quickly as possible and carefully assessed before, and if, any action is taken.

“We will then tell communities what action we have taken to address these issues.”

If you know anyone dealing drugs, where drugs are being sold or where drugs are being grown or stored call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or phone 151.
