Police crackdown on bike thefts in Newham with registration drive

Dozens of cyclists in Newham have had their bikes marked and registered after a police drive to cut theft.
Officers joined forced with the borough’s bike shops to hold events last month.
Specialists also advised cyclists on how to minimise the risk of having their bike stolen.
Forty-two people signed up to www.bikeregister.com.
Asst Ch Cons Alan Pacey, from British Transport Police (BTP), said: “We urge commuters to attend events like this ensure that their bikes are marked and registered, which makes them easier to track down.
“Officers also identify the top locations for bike theft on a regular basis, targeting them through covert and overt policing operations to catch would-be offenders in the act.”
Officers from the Met, BTP, City of London Police, and a special Cycle Task Force, also made more than 20 arrests across the capital
