Six people have been arrested in dawn raids across London today by officers from Scotland Yard’s Counter Terrorism Command.
They include two men and a youth arrested at home addresses in east London.
Officers used a taser stunning device while arresting one of the men, said police. But he did not need hospital treatment.
The raids were part of a pre-planned, intelligence-led operation by officers under the 2000 Terrorism Act, Scotland Yard has confirmed this-morning.
Searches are being carried out at east London business premises as well as eight residential addresses in east, north and west London.
The six were arrested under the Terrorism Act on suspicion of preparing and carrying out acts of terrorism. They have been taken to a police station where they remain in custody.
Two of the men aged 26 and 24 and an 18-year-old youth were arrested at residential premises in east London.
A man aged 21 and the woman aged 30 were arrested at separate addresses in west London, where another man aged 29 was arrested in the street.
Officers from the Met’s Firearms Unit were involved in the arrests.
This-morning’s operation was not linked to the Olympics opening in east London on July 27, said Scotland Yard.
