She was run over shortly after 1pm in Green Lane, Goodmayes, a spokesman for the London Ambulance Service said.

The girl was treated by paramedics for a leg injury and taken by ambulance ‘as a priority’ to Queen’s Hospital in Romford, he added.

LAS said she was conscious and breathing on the journey.

The crash happened near Al-Noor Primary School but the injured girl is not thought to be a pupil there.

A spokesman for the school said: “It involved a pupil from Mayfield School. We send our thoughts to her friends and family and hope she gets well soon.”

The incident comes a day after an 11-year-old girl died after she and her mother were struck by a car as they waited at a bus stop in Stanmore.
