Detectives investigating the fatal shooting of Wayne Stockdale in Bromley-by-Bow are offering a £20,000 reward for information on the anniversary of his death.

The reward is on offer for information leading to the identification, arrest and prosecution of the people responsible for Wayne’s killing a year ago.

Police were called at about 10:20pm on Friday, May 6 last year to reports of a man shot. In an underpass under flats at the junction of Knapp Road and Rounton Road in Bromley-by-Bow, they found 42-year-old wayne suffering gunshot wounds.

Wayne, from Poplar, was taken to Royal London Hospital where he died at 12:50pm the next day.

A post-mortem examination gave cause of death as a gunshot wound to the head.

An incident room is open under Det Chief Insp John Crossley at the met’s gun crime command Operation Trident.

Police believe Wayne was riding a bicycle in Rounton Road when two men armed with handguns opened fire, shooting him in the head. They believe that Wayne was not the target of the shooting and was hit because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The men, described as black or Asian and wearing face coverings, made off towards Knapp Road and got into a car.

Det Chief Insp Crossley said: “We have always maintained that Wayne was not the intended target for this incident, which saw shots fired both at him and into the street.

“It’s now a year since the killing took place and we hope the offer of an reward will encourage people to come forward with information.”

Police are urging anyone with information to contact the incident room on 020 8733 4212 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

- Three men have been previously been arrested on suspicion of murder but subsequently released with no further action.
