The End Violence Against Women Coalition is pushing the boat out at the Horse & Groom in Shoreditch after their annual meeting.

The campaign group which promotes awareness and lobbies for better legislation has carried out studies showing most violence in the home occurs during high-tension sports events, especially football.

The author of its recent report on domestic violence, Dr Catherine Palmer, said: “Increased competitive tensions and consuming alcohol are factors, particularly for women already living in vulnerable domestic arrangements.”

The group is anxious to raise awareness of the link between alcohol and sporting events during the 2012 London Olympics starting next week.
