Claremont High School Academy pays tribute to Clive Ridgeon

A Kenton school has named its sports hall after a former deputy headteacher who devoted more than 40 years to the school.

Claremont High School Academy Trust has dedicated its sports hall to Clive Ridgeon, a teacher from 1956 to 1996 at the school in Claremont Road.

In that time, he was head of boys’ PE, a maths teacher, deputy headteacher and a pastoral leader.

Mr Ridgeon died last year and his family attended the ceremony on June 12 where his daughter Emma unveiled a plaque in his memory.

Paul McCann, assistant headteacher, said: “In short, he was a legend and ‘Mr Claremont’.

“He was a lovely man and an enthusiastic PE teacher. He was a hard rugby player, but he had a great heart.”

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Brent also opened the school’s new design and technology block, which was originally opened in 1994 by Sir Rhodes Boyson, the then Conservative MP for Brent North.

It will be named after Lindsay MacDonald, who was headteacher between 1986 and 1998. She travelled from Scotland to attend.
