The record is the 14th in a series of 20 being broken this year as part of the World Record London initiative.

It was achieved when 250 students simultaneously tossed their mortar boards in the air.

Students representing more than 100 different nations and more than 30 London universities took part.

More than 108,000 international students study in London – more than any other city in the world.

Gordon Innes, CEO of London & Partners, the capital’s promotional agency, said: “London continues to attract a huge diversity of students from all over the world to study at our first class universities.

“The record was about bringing these talented students together to celebrate their achievements in London.’
