Celebrations: Warren School pupils have made improvements this year

Warren School pupils are continuing to improve with two thirds expected to achieve A* to Cs in their A-levels this year.

Sixty three per cent reached the benchmark in 2011 but 66 or 67 per cent look set to obtain these grades this year, provisional figures collated by the engineering and sports college show.

Staff were celebrating today after Chinese born pupil Yewen Yu, 18, became the first student to achieve an A*.

The Chadwell Heath schoolgirl is going to read mathematics at Essex University after obtaining her A* grade in maths, an A in further maths and a C in physics.

The school in Whalebone Lane North, Chadwell Heath, enjoyed a 100 per cent pass rate in its vocational subjects as well as its A-levels, provisional results show.

Headteacher Francois van Rensburg, 42, said: “As a school we are definitely continuing with improvements. It is down to the hard of our students.

“They have really risen to the challenge. They have coped remarkably well and done themselves, their parents and families extremely proud. We as teachers are extremely happy.”

Stuart Brown, 18, of Heath Road, Chadwell Heath, is going to study biology at Queen Mary, University of London, after bagging As in physics and biology, a B in maths and a C in further maths.

Eleanor Hurrell, 18, is going to study world performing studies at the E15 acting school in Southend attended by Billy Elliot director Stephen Daldry and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels veteran actor Alan Ford.

Eleanor, of Wadeville Avenue, Chadwell Heath, achieved an A in drama, as well as a distinction in her performing arts Btec and a pass in her Btec in art and design.

She said: “It was quite nerve-wracking. I’ve done a lot of auditions. It took a lot of time and I wasn’t sure I was going to get anywhere but it all paid off.”

Bunmi Enirayetan, 18, is going to study media and communication at Birmingham City University after achieving a B in media, a B in sociology and distinctions in her Btec in health and social care.

Bunmi, of Sheepcotes Road, Chadwell Heath, said: “I’m happy. It’s a lot better than I expected. It was such a stressful time. It ended up being for the best.”
