Heavy downpours of rain this weekend have prompted the Environment Agency to issue flood alerts for parts of London.

The currently active alerts for the capital, which mean flooding is possible and people should be prepared, apply to:

- The Lower River Roding including Redbridge, Woodford, Wanstead, Ilford, East Ham and Barking.

- The River Crane at Hillingdon, Southall, Cranford, Feltham and Twickenham.

- The Middle River Roding including Abridge, Loughton and Buckhurst Hill.

- The River Ingrebourne at Harold Park and Hornchurch including Harold Wood, Upminster and Rainham.

The Environment Agency has warned of the possibility of localised flooding across parts of the South East at the end of a particularly wet week in which 42mm (1.7in) of rain fell.

Tom Tobler, a forecaster with MeteoGroup, said: "The South East will experience heavy rain this morning, but it will then ease off, with the heaviest rain in the South West, central England and Wales. It will then spread northwards."

Tuesday will also see another band of heavy rain across various regions including the South East.
