Thousands of people had to be evacuated after a fire broke out at the Royal Albert Hall.
The small basement fire happened yesterday evening, shortly before 7.08pm. The Royal Albert Hall was playing host to the Classic FM Live concert.
New Zealand soprano Hayley Westenra and the Central Band of the Royal Air Force were among the acts due to take to the stage at the historic venue in Kensington.
It also meant that 11-year-old choirboy Jack Topping, who was due to sing You’ll Never Walk Alone, missed out on his Royal Albert Hall debut.
Classic FM radio station tweeted yesterday: “Due to a small suspected fire in the basement of the Royal Albert Hall, tonight’s Classic FM Live has regrettably been cancelled.
Around 3,500 people were evacuated from the building as a precaution, London Fire Brigade (LFB) said.
Two men were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
The fire damaged an electrical unit in a basement area of the concert venue.
LFB said the incident was over by 8.41pm.
Two fire engines and around 10 firefighters from Knightsbridge and Kensington fire stations were at the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
