Firefighters used ladders to rescue an elderly woman from a blaze in Sydenham this morning.
Neighbours called the brigade at about 7.30am after smoke was seen coming from a house in Homecroft Road. One woman escaped from a ground floor flat before 20 firefighters arrived and put on breathing equipment to rescue the second woman from the first floor. She was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene before being taken to hospital by ambulance.
The fire was under control by 8.40am.
