THE finest eateries across north Kent are this week soaking up the glory as the long awaited Archant Food and Drink Award regional winners are finally confirmed.

Restaurants, bars and bistros across the county and south-east London competed in their hundreds in hopes of receiving one of the prestigious accolades.

A staggering 650 entries where received, while food loving customers raked up an incredible 2.5 million votes for their chosen eateries, a record number never before seen in the awards five year history.

Enzo Testa, executive managing director of Archant London, publishers of the Dartford and Swanley Times and Gravesend Reporter, said: "The Archant London Food and Drink Awards are increasing in popularity every year. This is evidenced by the record number of 650 entries that we have received this year from all categories of local restaurants throughout our readership areas. At the close of voting over 2.5 million votes had been cast demonstrating that people are keen to vote for and support their favourite local eatery. We look forward to announcing the overall winners soon. With each of the regional winners confirmed across each of the 30 Archant London newspaper publications, only 17 restaurants will be crowned as our Food & Drink Award Overall Winner 2009.
