Chief Superintendent Matt Bell, who worked in the borough from 2003 to 2009 as both a Chief Inspector and Deputy Borough Commander, will receive an MBE for his work in Barking.

He said: “I’ve had a fantastic 27 years in the Met and this award is the icing on the cake.

“It was a challenging time in Barking but the plans worked and it’s a completely different borough now to the one it was before.”

Chief Supt Bell is now the Borough Commander for Lambeth.

Met Commissioner Bernard Hogan-Howe said: “These awards are a great achievement and show what a fantastic contribution officers, staff and volunteers in the Met make to the organisation.”
