Borough Commander for Hackney, Graham Howgate wants everyone to follow the London Fire Brigade’s (LFB) three top Diamond Jubilee safety tips to reduce the risk of serious fires.

They want everyone holding a street party to notify Hackney Council, as they will work together to plan how fire engines can get to emergencies where streets are closed.

They are also telling people to make sure they don’t get distracted by the festivities and forget they have left a pan on in the kitchen, especially if they are planning on having a few drinks.

Unattended cooking is the highest cause of fires in people’s homes.

LFB also want people to ensure they don’t leave barbeques unattended, and not to light it too close to sheds, fences or trees.

“We want everyone to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee and if you follow our safety tips we won’t be coming to your party,” said Mr Howgate.
