The event, in aid of the Havering and Brentwood Bereavement Service, took place at Stapleford Abbots Golf Club, and raised more than £5,000.

Before their evening meal after the golf, those taking part heard a speech from a teenager who had been helped by the charity.

Participant Billy Davie said: “To hear a 17-year-old talk with such bravery was humbling. All I had to do was turn up and play on the day to be able to make such a huge difference to another local child’s life.”

Lizzie Allen, marketing manager for the charity, said: “The golf day is very special to us. We are really lucky that golfers come back year after year to support us, and it was the proceeds of the first golf day three years ago that helped fund the start up of our children’s bereavement service.”
