The day was part of Tower Hamlets council’s “Young @ Heart” initiative, which aims to increase physical activity and healthy lifestyles among over-50s.

The event gave residents the opportunity to sample a range of the activities available at weekly classes, including zumba, salsa and badminton. They were also offered free treatments, including massages and manicures.

Mayor of Tower Hamlets, Lutfur Rahman, said: “The ‘Young @ Heart’ programme is specifically designed to appeal to older residents and to ensure this important group of people does not miss out on opportunities to keep fit and stay healthy.”

Classes will continue to be held on a weekly basis, with full details of times and venues available on the council’s website.
