Whitechapel’s Royal London Hospital recognised in infrastructure awards

The new £650m Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel has been named as one of the top 10 healthcare infrastructures in the world by global accountancy firm KPMG.
The hospital, which opened in March, was chosen as part of a global project by KPMG to recognise the world’s most innovative and sustainable infrastructure projects.
It comprises 110 wards, with more than 40 per cent of the accommodation in wards provided through single rooms.
Matthew Tulley, Barts NHS trust new hospital programme director, said: “This recognition is a worthy testament to the hard work and collaborative efforts of our clinical and non-clinical teams and partners.
“We are proud to have designed and created the best possible care environment and medical facilities for our staff and patient community.”
The hospital was recently in the news after it was criticised by the Royal College of Suregons for waiting times endured by patients ahead of relatively minor procedures, which caused their conditions to deteriorate. However, it blamed the dated facilities of the old hospital, and reassured patients that quality of care would improve following their move to new premises.
