The iconic symbol started in Barking Park at about 10am - riding on the miniature railway - before taking in several roads across the borough.

Members of dance troupe Diversity, led by torchbearer and group leader Ashley Banjo, carried it on to the stage at the Dagenham Town Show in Central Park, Dagenham.

See the Barking and Dagenham Post on Wednesday for a full round-up and pictures of all the action. Also get your free 64-page Streets of Gold supplement celebrating the Summer Olympics.

Pictures in the gallery are mainly by Steve Poston and Thomas Fuchs.
