The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be special guests at a gala celebrating Britain’s Olympic and Paralympic athletes.

Prince William and Kate will attend Our Greatest Team Rises at the Royal Albert Hall next Friday - the day after the Olympic Flame is lit in Olympia, Greece.

They will be joined by sporting legends including Sir Steve Redgrave, Dame Kelly Holmes and Denise Lewis.

Our Greatest Team Rises, which aims to unite fans throughout the UK in supporting Team GB and ParalympicsGB and to raise funds for athletes competing at the London 2012 Games, will include performances from Gary Barlow, Will Young, Dermot O’Leary and Spellbound.

The evening will be hosted by Davina McCall and John Bishop and a special menu is being designed by Michelin-starred chef Simon Hulstone.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and Prince Harry, are official Team GB and ParalympicsGB ambassadors.

Team GB Chef de Mission Andy Hunt said: “Team GB ambassadors have led the way in encouraging fans throughout the United Kingdom to show their support for our nation’s Olympic and Paralympic athletes, and to have TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge joining their fellow ambassadors for Our Greatest Team Rises will help build a wave of support that will make a critical difference for our athletes.”
