Crowds have welcomed the Paralympic Torch to London as it journeys to the Olympic Stadium in Stratford.

The relay, which is running approximately two hours behind schedule, arrived in London early this morning, journeying through places including Watford and Harrow.

In Brent the Torch was taken by a group of five torchbearers on to the steps of the Shree Swaminaryan Mandir Temple.

Later in the morning, it will be carried across the Abbey Road crossing, and then to Lord’s Cricket Ground, where a group of cricketers who compete in the UK’s first blind women’s cricket team will carry the Flame.

Five previously unemployed people with disabilities, who have now all trained and qualified as fitness gym instructors, will carry the Flame at ZSL London Zoo.

The Flame will be carried through Piccadilly Circus, and then a few minutes later through Trafalgar Square. Among the torchbearers carrying the Flame through Trafalgar Square is Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, who won 16 Paralympic medals including 11 golds.

Prince Harry nominated the team of torchbearers from Walking with the Wounded, who will carry the Paralympic Flame down Whitehall.

A team from torchbearers from Chelsea FC’s pan-disability squad will carry the Paralympic Flame to Westminster Abbey.

The Flame will be taken across Tower Bridge in the afternoon, before being taken to City Hall by a group of Paralympians, including Jan Wilson, 57, and Jim Muirhead, 58, both from London.

Jan competed in the 1980, 1984 and 1988 Summer Paralympic Games as a swimmer winning one gold, six silver and five bronze medals.

Jim competed at three Paralympic Games winning 13 medals, including five golds.

In the late afternoon and evening the Flame will visit the Olympic host boroughs, including being taken to Hackney Town Hall, Leyton Jubilee Park in Waltham Forest, and Stratford Park, Newham.

The Flame will then be taken to the Olympic Stadium in Stratford.
