Six members of same London family in Sussex death crash

A woman died and a baby girl was left fighting for her life after a car crash involving six members of the same family from Pimlico in south London.

Two adult and two child relations were also seriously injured when a Honda Accord and Volkswagen Golf collided in West Sussex at around 11.30am, on Easter Sunday.

An air ambulance rushed to the scene, but the 56-year-old woman from Queen’s Park in London died of her injuries, said a Sussex police spokesman.

An 18-month-old girl was in a critical condition in hospital.

“The girl was taken to St George’s Hospital, Tooting, along with the 34-year-old driver of the car, a 26-year-old woman, and two other girls aged three and one, all of whom were seriously injured,” he said.

The driver of the Volkswagen, a 60-year-old man who was travelling with his wife, suffered serious chest injuries.

Sergeant Paul Skinner from the Sussex Police Road Policing Unit, said: “This is a desperately tragic incident that has left a toddler fighting for her life.

“A full investigation is now under way and I would ask that anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have seen either of the cars in the area in the time leading up to the crash, to please call Sussex Police.”
