Temperatures in London are expected to continue sweltering over the weekend.

The capital is forecast to bask in 25C heat today and 26C tomorrow.

Sunny weather is predicted to continue into next week.

Britain has been hotter than parts of mainland Europe and Africa over the past few days.

At Heathrow Airport yesterday the temperature reached 25.7C. In comparison, Athens in Greece reached 24C while Casablanca in Morocco could only manage 22C.

Temperatures have reached almost 10C higher than the average for this time of year. Average maximum temperatures for England in May are 14C to 17C.
