Starting each day with a breakfast consisting of eight hotdogs and a pile of sandwiches washed down with coffee was always likely to lead to problems for Londoner Keith Martin – who is now desperate to shed his dubious title of world’s fattest man.

Martin, who weighs 53 stone, lives in north west London with the help of a team of seven carers who provide week round care. Spending most of his time in a reinforced bed, where he is washed and tended by the team between meals.

Lunch consists of chocolate bars and cakes, while dinner is comprised of two whole roast dinners, or 16 sausages complete with a bag of frozen chips.

This diet has made Keith, 42, into one of a million morbidly obese people in the UK.

Blaming his condition on the death of his mother when he was 16-years-old, Keith now wants to shed the pounds by getting the help he admits he desperately needs.

A film crew meets Keith while out with the team taking him to hospital.

But his extra-large frame proves to be a real challenge and getting him through the doors of his house poses a real problem.

Keith’s story forms part of a TV show about the men and women tasked with looking after the ballooning population of overweight people in the UK. Big Body Squad is broadcast on Channel 5, later this month.
