A royal Princess has lifted the lid on the Queen’s emotions at celebrating her Diamond Jubilee in London without husband the Duke of Edinburgh.
Princess Eugenie was speaking ahead of taking part in a charity bike taking in 50 landmarks in London this evening, in aid of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital.
“They are the most incredibly supportive couple to each other. Grandpa was unfortunately taken ill and for granny to come and do that alone was probably quite testing and I think he is her rock, really, and she is his,” she said.
Princess Eugenie hailed as an “unbelievable experience” last weekend’s Jubilee celebrations in the capital city.
Prince Philip was forced to miss a series of Jubilee events after being taken ill with a bladder infection.
He was discharged from King Edward VII hospital in Papworth, this morning (Saturday).
“To see that many people out there, I’m so amazed by the amount of love and support and gratitude that everyone has for granny.
“I was walking through the garden here the other day and someone came up to me and said ‘I’d die for your grandmother, I think she’s the most incredible person in the entire world to do what she’s done for 60 years’, and it makes me so proud.
“The whole thing was just an unbelievable experience that will forever stay with England and me because I got to actually be there and take part.”
Television presenter Ben Fogle will join Princess Eugenie on tonight’s moonlit bike ride.
