Lower Clapton woman to walk 15 miles across London tonight for retinoblastoma research

A woman from Lower Clapton is taking part in a 15-mile walk through London tonight, after a young relative was diagnosed with a rare eye cancer.

Chrissie Thorne, 51, from Clarence Place, hopes to raise more than £300 for the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust (CHECT) through taking part in the Carrots Nightwalk, taking inspiration after the nephew of her daughter-in-law was diagnosed with retinoblastoma.

The rare eye cancer which mainly affects children under the age of six, and can have life-long consequences including blindness.

The walkers on the walk organised by research charity Fight for Sight will be joined by

Bblind Paralympian Darren Harris, who is also a patron of CHECH and had retinoblastoma as a young boy.

Joy Felgate, chief executive of CHECT, said: “We are really grateful to everyone who has committed to this walk - 15 miles overnight is no easy challenge but our walkers can rest assured that every penny they raise will go a long way towards helping children with retinoblastoma.”

Organised by research charity Fight for Sight, all money raised will go towards retinoblastoma research.
