Man dies after being hit by train at Romford Station

A 18-year-old man has died after he was hit by a train at Romford Station.

The man, who has not been named was struck by the 4.40pm train travelling from Liverpool Street to Southend Victoria at Romford Station in Main Road, Romford on Friday September 9.

Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service attended where the man from North Stifford, was pronounced dead.

The British Transport Police officers and those from the Metropolitan Police also attended and the incident is currently being treated as non suspicious.

Romford Station was closed from around 4.45pm to 6.30pm with all the lines through Romford being suspended.

Delays were reported throughout the evening.

A spokesman for the British Transport Police said: “BTP were called to Romford rail station on Friday, 8 September following the report of a man being struck by a train.

“BTP and Metropolitan Police officers attended the incident, which was reported to police at 4.57pm and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.

“Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service also attended but the man, believed to be 18-years-old and from North Stifford, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“A file will be prepared for the Coroner.”

A National Express East Anglia spokesman said: “Train services to and from Liverpool Street were delayed from 17.00 on Friday evening following a fatality at Romford. All lines were re-opened by 18.50. We apologise to passengers for the delays and disruption to journeys.”
