Police were called to the scene at 10am and the death is being treated as non-suspicious.

No further details about the man’s identity have been given.

Paramedics attended but he was pronounced dead at the scene at 10.30am.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “Enquiries are ongoing to establish the identity of the person involved and inform their family.”

The train involved was the 9.48am Liverpool Street to Braintree service.

There were cancellations of Greater Anglia trains out of Liverpool Street to Clacton-on-Sea and Shenfield as a result.

Trains from Southend Victoria and Shenfield to Liverpool Street were also cancelled.

All trains in the Ilford area were at a stand-still causing delays.

A Greater Anglia spokesman said the four lines operating through Ilford were re-opened by midday and services returned to normal between 1pm and 1.30pm.
