The Heritage Lottery Fund has pledged £482,600 to help Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts’ plans to regenerate Hornsey Town Hall so it can apply for a full grant later.

The theatre school, in Clarendon Road, Wood Green, is negotiating with Haringey Council over the lease of the town hall, ahead of an expected £19m revamp.

Sue Robertson, principal of Mountview, said: “There is now a real chance of this important building being restored and once again filled with arts, heritage and cultural events that everyone can enjoy.”

Cllr Claire Kober, Haringey Council leader, said the support means Mountview can press ahead to transform the town hall into a leading drama school which will bring community benefits.
