The star, who was born in Bexleyheath in July 1958, studied piano and violin at St Joseph’s Convent Grammar School in Abbey Wood.

It was there that she was spotted by Dave Gilmour of Pink Floyd. She signed a contract with EMI at the tender age of 16.

Her first hit, Wuthering Heights, was number one in the British charts for four weeks in 1978.
