A lorry driver has been arrested following a fatal collision with a cyclist in south London this morning.
Police said they were called to the scene of the incident on Thurlow Park Road, West Dulwich, around 9.30am. The cyclist, believed to be 30-years-old, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said the lorry involved was a white Mercedes and that the rider, who was not on a Boris Bike, was wearing a helmet.
The London Ambulance Service said the woman was pronounced dead after suffering a cardiac arrest.
The 40-year-old lorry driver, who stopped at the scene, has since been arrested in connection with the incident, police said.
Five of the seven cyclist deaths in London this year have involved HGVs – a fact which prompted the Mayor of London to announce today a public consultation on plans for a Safer Lorry Charge.
Boris Johnson’s plan would mean HGVs driving around parts of London would have to be equipped with side-guards or face fines and consultation will begin early next year.
