Officers will also be on patrol on Sunday evening, exactly one week after Hani Hicham Abou El Kheir, 16, died in Lupus Street following an attack by a suspected gang of up to 10 youths. A post-mortem examination gave his cause of death as multiple stab wounds.

An emotional statement from his mother has been printed on an appeal leaflet to be handed to neighbours by the Churchill Safer Neighbourhood Team over the next few days.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Attewell of the Homicide and Serious Crime Command [HSCC], said: “A week on since the horrific attack which led to Hani’s death, my team of detectives continue to appeal for witness to come forward and assist us with our investigation.

“Hani was set upon by at least 10 people in the vicious attack.

“Since that tragic day we have worked endlessly to establish the course of events and identify those responsible for Hani’s death.

“Hani’s mother is grieving the loss of her only child. She has bravely laid out her grief publicly in the appeal leaflets in the hope that someone will come forward and help us identify those responsible.”

Westminster Chief Superintendent Paul Rickett added: “Our thoughts are with Hani’s family at this difficult time. No parent should have to mourn the loss of their child in circumstances like these.

“Seven days have passed since the tragic event and my absolute commitment is to do whatever it takes to bring those responsible to justice for this horrendous act.”

Any witnesses or anyone with any information should contact the incident room on 0208 345 3715 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

A 20-year-old man arrested in north London in connection with the investigation has been bailed to return in late March pending further enquiries.
