A post mortem has revealed a mother and her five children killed in a house fire in Neasden died from smoke inhalation.

Muna Elmufatish, 41, perished alongside her daughters Hanin, 14, Basma, 13, Amal, nine, and sons Mustafa, five and two-year-old Yehya Kua, after a fire ripped through their home in Sonia Gardens on Saturday at around 1am.

Father Bassam, 51, and eldest daughter 16-year-old Nur managed to escape the inferno and are being treated for their injuries in hospital.

Mr Kua is in a stable condition and Kur, who is said to have severe burns, is in a critical but stable condition.

A post mortem was carried out in Northwick Park Hospital today (Monday) and an inquest into their deaths will open at Barnet Coroner’s Court tomorrow (Tuesday).

Since their death, family, friends and neighbours have been trying to come to terms with their sudden deaths.

Yesterday, more than 60 pupils from Crest Academy School in Crest Road, Neasden, which Hanin and Basma attended and Kur was an ex-pupil, laid flowers at the scene.

Today, Crest Academy and Braintcroft Primary School in nearby Warren Road, where Amal and Mustafa attended, held special assemblies in their memory.

Bev Bell, Crest Academy principal told the Times the school is providing counsellors for grieving pupils.

She added: “It’s very sombre and quiet.

“We have a large community of girls here who are very upset.”

“Our thoughts must go out to Nur and her father who are fighting for their lives and are the remaining members of this wonderful family in our school community.”

A Beko fridge freezer in the family’s home has been ruled out as being the cause of the fire.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing
