Two people who died in a car crash in which three others were injured have been revealed to be siblings.
The pair, thought to be from Waltham Forest, and a third brother, were in a red Honda Civic, which was involved in a collision with a silver Renault Clio in Lodge Avenue, Dagenham.
One of the pair, 17, was a backseat passenger and died at the scene while his brother, 20, died of injuries at hospital shortly afterwards.
The 18-year-old driver of the Honda Civic was taken to hospital where he remains in serious condition.
The male driver and female passenger of the Clio, aged 46 and 42 respectively, were treated at hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The first person to arrive at the scene of the crash on Saturday at about 10.10pm has described the “horror” he witnessed.
Resident Darren Smith, 29, who lives right next to the crash site, said: “I was just walking out of my house when I heard a screech and then what sounded like an explosion.
“I froze in shock, then I had my phone in my hand and instantly rang 999.
“I walked over and saw a woman on the floor. I got her into the recovery position, I had never done it before, I just did it like a robot.
“Then the horror hit me. The front of the red car was completely squashed. I saw the driver trying to move and asked him not to. He managed to open the door and stumbled out and dropped onto the pavement. I sat next to him and said ‘please, stay still’ and that help was coming.
“The other guy was slumped in the passenger seat and I knew he was dead. I didn’t realise there was a guy in the back until later. He wasn’t moving.”
Mr Smith said the family of the deceased came to the site of the crash on Sunday morning.
“There were two boys and one said ‘they were our brothers’ and I started crying. The dad broke down. He said ‘I have lost two of my sons in one blow’. My heart goes out to the family.”
