Our featured London blogger Andy Wilkes worked inside the Olympics site for four years and saw the Olympics village come to life in front of him. In this blog, he shares some exclusive images from inside the Olympic village when it was being built.
The Aquatics Centre and stadium at dusk in 2010
The Stadium as taken 2009 is almost unrecognisable without its triangular lights and wrap, and the surrounding area is still massively under developed. This view changed almost daily for me over the four years I was on site.
The Aquatics Centre taken at dusk sometime during 2010. The roof had been completed and had just been lowered onto the supports and the outside and grandstands for the Aquatics Centre had yet to be built. This is a view no one will ever see again.
The ArcelorMittal Orbit and the stadium in 2011
The ArcelorMittal Orbit is still in pieces in late 2011 and is being constructed like a massive 3D jigsaw puzzle. The pieces were laid out next to the Stadium and craned into place. I was lucky enough to go up the Orbit in February 2012 during the final phase of construction and then again in April 2012 during the grand opening to the press.
