Our featured London blogger Andy Wilkes shares pictures of the Olympic Park during the Games.
The Olympic Rings - probably one of the most popular photographic areas of the whole siteWhat struck me most about the Olympic Park during Games time was the sheer amount of people. I know there had been 17,000+ workers on site during my four years, but not all at once. I used to be able to drive and wander around site and not see anyone except small pockets of workers getting on with their tasks.
I walked back into the site in July and couldn’t believe my eyes - hundreds of thousands of people walking around taking all this in. Every time I heard someone say “where’s the hockey arena?” or “what’s the quickest way to the Aquatics?” I had to stop my self from jumping in and telling them.
The Velodrome, dressed with Olympic LiveryI had been on site more than a thousand times by then and had walked it many, many times, but on Games days, I took my time walking about again soaking it all in and thinking: “I helped do this.” A massive smile would stay on my face all day long.
