Where do you live and why?

High Barnet, at the end of the Northern line, because it is near family and green fields on the edge of London where I can take long walks and not see another soul.

What does London mean to you?

Endless things to do and learn - you can never find everything London has to offer, never mind do it.

What is your earliest London memory?

Coming back from Yemen, aged 10, and drinking a Piccadilly caf dry of fresh milk that I hadnt seen in two years.

If you could live anywhere in London, where would it be?

In a big old Victorian pub near Hampstead Heath, whose ground floor I kept open for tango dances for friends.

What advice would you give to someone new in London?

Walk its the best way to discover the city. Talk people are much friendlier than their reputation.

What is your favourite London view?

A boat along the Thames, from Greenwich to Westminster, at night.

Where is your favourite place to eat or drink?

Food: Pierre Victoire, Dean Street. Drink: Ive found the best martini in London but it stays secret as the bar is so tiny - sorry.

Where are your favourite places to shop?

Uniqlo and Debenhams for John Rocha, but I keep looking for a good workshop to produce my own designs. I travel a lot and I hate the whole seasonal fashion thing where you can't buy summer clothes in winter etc. Then it's gadgets on Tottenham Court Road, or the Apple Store, outdoor shops in Covent Garden or online. Boy stuff. I love browsing in Robert Dyas - one feels very manly.

What is your favourite London spot for relaxing?

See favourite place to drink above. Otherwise, I like wandering around Soho - there are still plenty of great places hidden away.

What is your best London discovery or hidden treasure?

Ive had a website full of them for 10 years: secret-london.co.uk. My first treasure was Notre Dame de France, off Leicester Square that started it all. Recently, Soho's Secret Tea Room: sohossecrettearoom.co.uk

What is the first thing you would do if you were Mayor?

Allow motorcycles and scooters to park wherever they like, within reason - it works in Paris and Rome.
