The man died at the scene in Watermead Way following the accident at about 1.30pm on Saturday, despite medics battling for an hour-and-a-half to save his life.

Another of the cars involved in the accident, which closed the road for a number of hours, caught fire as the emergency services were trying to rescue the injured drivers.

Witnesses described seeing the occupants of the burning car pulled from the vehicle, which had to be put out by crews from the London Fire Brigade.

The air ambulance was also called to the scene, landing on Tottenham Marshes.

It is thought initial calls to the emergency services directed them to the wrong location.

The two other casualties were taken to the North Middlesex Hospital, Sterling Way, Edmonton, and the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel Road, Whitechapel.
