The number of blazes in the borough fell to 1,129, in 2011– a 40 per cent drop on the 1,890 fires in 2001.

The total number of incidents attended by firefighters in the borough in 2011 was 3,074, around eight a day. That compares to 4,565, around 13 a day, in 2001.

Andy Holcombe, the brigade’s borough commander for Bromley, said: “People in Bromley are really benefiting from the hard work of our firefighters. However, whilst the borough has become a safer place there is no room for complacency.”
