Bottles of counterfeit Champagne were among a haul of fake or illegally-imported booze seized shops in Muswell Hill and Bounds Green.

The eight magnums purporting to be Bollinger Champagne, worth more than £600 if genuine, were confiscated alongside boxes of fake Jacob’s Creek wine.
All four shops targeted by Haringey Council trading standards officers and members of Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) last month were also stocking non-duty paid goods.
These included 110 packets of cigarettes, 200 bottles of wine and 20 litres of spirits, all of which were confiscated. Some 40 packets of shisha tobacco were also found without carrying appropriate health warnings.
Cllr Nilgun Canver, cabinet member for environment, said: “The shopowners who sell this alcohol know they are not buying from legitimate suppliers, so if you shop with reputable traders you are unlikely to be duped.”
She added: “Apart from consumers being tricked, some of these counterfeit goods may not have had all the checks required to ensure they are safe to consume.”
